SPICE for the married and engaged couple
The Creighton Model FertilityCare System strengthens the marital bonding through SPICE by assisting couples in discovering the “inner soul” of their human sexuality. It teaches couples to distinguish between sexual contact and genital contact and to live out their sexuality on every level - Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Creative and Emotional.
SPICE is very beneficial for couples and strengthens their marital bonding regardless of their intention in using the system ( avoid or achieve pregnancy) and whether they are using the Creighton Model System or not. All couples at any stage of their life can benefit from learning and living out SPICE. Through SPICE, couples learn to express their love to each other in other, non-genital ways. Such communication really forms the foundation for a joyful and lasting married relationship.
Genital Contact is any physical contact of the male and female genital organs. Sexual contact is to be specifically distinguished from genital contact because it is the “contact” of the total person one to the other. Such contact includes genital contact but is much more than genital contact. In fact, most of the time, since it is much broader concept, the physical act of intercourse is not involved. Sexual contact involves true sexual interaction and is therefore multidimensional. It is Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Creative and Emotional. While genital contact is to be avoided during the days of fertility if it is the intention to avoid pregnancy, sexual contact is never to be avoided.
By avoiding genital contact on a periodic basis, there is natural tendency for the couple to communicate in other, non-genital ways. Such communication really forms the foundation for a joyful and lasting marriage relationship. When genital contact becomes the primary focus of the relationship, the communicative aspects of one’s personality are left undeveloped. Trust in a relationship comes from the development of non-genital forms of communication. With this, a true communion between man and woman can develop which is liberating, loving and permanent. In addition, when such love exists, the genital union takes on a deeper meaning and its quality is elevated.
